A busy week for Barking Road Runners this week with a selection of races, extra parkruns, training with Ilford AC, and the small matter of Christmas to fit in too.

A few members attended a tough hill session at Ingrebourne Hill with Ilford AC on Christmas Eve as an extra training session for the upcoming South Essex Cross Country League on the 29th.

Plenty of BRR runners did the extra Christmas Day parkrun at Barking Park to make more room for their dinner, those at Barking were:

Friday was another training session with Ilford AC, this time a fartlek session in Seven Kings Park for a few die-hard runners.

Saturday was parkrun day again. It was also the Ilford Hilly 10 miler at Hainault country park where BRR were represented by Rabea Begum 1:57:16, Natalie Traylen 1:48:20, Veronica Barikor 1:54:28, Ron Vialls 1:28:13, and Les Jay 1:58:03. Congratulations to everyone for beating the two hour cut-off time on a notoriously muddy and tough course, which proved ideal preparation for what was to follow on Sunday.

If some of you did parkruns but are missing from the list it’s because you haven’t added BRR to your profile therefore don’t show in the consolidated lists.

Hills, plenty of mud, runners were falling over on the flat bits, and lots of water up to your waist or chest depending how tall you were, it could only be round 2 of The South Essex Cross Country League once again at Hadleigh on a different longer course this time. A very good turn out for BRR of both men and women although with some of the quicker runners missing due to Christmas holidays or the lurgy it was going to be a tough ask. Despite members losing shoes, nose diving into the stream and taking tumbles on a course described as the wettest cross country ever, it was largely enjoyed by all.
