After last weeks busy race week this week was all about parkrun, specifically New Year’s Day parkrun and the once-a-year opportunity to do two runs in one day. With staggered starts at 09:00 and either 10:00 or 10:30, with a bit of planning – and a fast pair of legs! – the double is possible. Before then, however, several of BRR joined Ilford AC and Dagenham 88 for another tough session at Seven Kings Park organised by Ilford coach Rob Sergeant.
In addition to a number of members who did one parkrun on New Year’s day, several doubled up.
Six BRR members did the Raphael Park and Harrow Lodge double. They were:
Joe Stacey 19.04 at Raphael park and 19.59 at Harrow Lodge; Rory Burr 20:04, 21:28; Trevor Cooper 23:52, 23:06; Rosie Fforde 23:37, 25:48; Cristina Cooper 30:34, 30:25; and Greg Adams 33:56, 36:02.
Four runners did the Wanstead Park and Valentines Park double:
Paul Withyman 23:27, 22:35; Jason Li 29:45, 28:31; Viorel Mih 30:50, 25:50; and Andrew Gwilliam 32:28, 31:10.
Martin Brooks mixed things up by doing Raphael Park 28:33 and Valentines Park 25:51.
Meanwhile four more members ventured ‘south of the river’ to do the Greenwich and Catford double. They were:
Barry Culling 25:34, 27:16; Natalie Traylen 28:09, 28:07; Amanda Jane Heslegrave 29:43, 29:49; and Nikki Cranmer 34:21, 36:08.
Several members did the mid-week long run on Thursday evening setting off from outside from the Jo Richardson school in Gale St.
Saturday was yet more parkruns in this busy parkrun week. Thirty runners took part in various park runs including:
Wormwood scrubs, Barry Culling 27:46.

Raphaels Debbie Coyle 22:08 and Martin Brooks 25:44.

Beckton David George Mottley 38:17.
Barking Joe Stacey 18:35, James Lowndes 19:53, Rory Burr 20:08, Rosie Fforde 23:43, Adrian Davison 24:44, Charlotte Owen 24:49, Sally Bridge 25:17, Nehal Patel 25:28, John Lang 26:04, Amanda Jane Heslegrave 26:36, Les Jay27:27, Rabea Begum 27:54, Andrew Hiller 28:00, Jason Li 28:18, Dawn Blake 30:25, Nikki Cranmer 33:48, Krishna Veerasamy 34:07, Margaret Byers 49:30, James Byers 49:30 and Alan Murphy 50:31.
With cross country No. 3 coming, a bumper crop of 26 runners turned up at Hainault Country Park on Sunday for some hill and mud practice (not forgetting the club chips) before next week where another mud fest is likely.
Finally, congratulations to Paul Grange who was ranked world No 1 in the M40 division at 800m for 2019.
Well done Paul.
