Gary Harford

Please briefly introduce yourself

Hi all, my name is Gary Harford aka Gazza.

I have been running since school (that’s a long time ago!). I got into the London Schools 400 metres final two years on the trot. When I left school I trained with Cambridge Harriers for a while.

I moved to Romford from SE London in 1992. Two years later I married Penny. She will say I’m like a bear with a sore head if I’m not running, or if Charlton lose (quite often then).

What is your best/proudest running moment?

My best moment is the Westminster Mile in 5:15 and proudest is the London Marathon in 3 hours 36.

What events, if any, do you have coming up?

Apart from Club races I have nothing planned, just enjoying my running.

Best bit of running advice you could give or have been given.

ALWAYS STRETCH BEFORE AND AFTER RUNNING. You know it makes sense!

Stuart Burr

Please briefly introduce yourself

My name is Stuart Burr and was a member of Essex Beagles/ Newham & Essex Beagles from 15 years old to 21. Away from the track, love my weekend breaks with Rory’s mum, West Ham United, beers, prosecco and good food.

What events, if any, do you have coming up?

No races planned as my knee doesn’t take well to hills and mud.

What does running mean to you?

Running is the most fantastic inclusive sport, and for me I am a nicer person when not injured!

What is your best/proudest running moment?

Best performance was a 14.31 in the 5000m, in the British League in Cwmbran, beating the great Tony Simmons that day. Was a fluke!

Best bit of running advice you could give or have been given.

Love our track sessions, and the banter and encouragement that pulls so many people together all doing their best to improve.
